Vincent Kompany backs Bernardo Silva to become Man City captain

    Silva’s superb 2018/19 season

Bernardo Silva has been one of Man City’s best players this season.

The midfielder had a decent 2017/18 campaign but he has really come into his own this year.

With Kevin De Bruyne suffering numerous injuries throughout the season, the mantel fell partly on Silva to provide the creativity of KDB.

Silva would score 13 and assisted 12 in 50 games across all competitions this past season.

The 24-year-old also made it into the PFA Team of the Year.

    Kompany praises Silva

As well as making it into the Premier League TOTY, Silva has also been receiving some high praise from Vincent Kompany.

Kompany has been City’s captain for several seasons now and is a terrific leader.

The Belgian also scored a stunning goal to keep Man City at the top of the Premier League in their penultimate league game of the season.

When speaking about Bernardo Silva, Kompany stated that he has the potential to become the captain of Manchester City:

“I say to him often you are 50 per cent clown, 50 per cent leader.

“When he becomes 25 per cent clown, 75 per cent leader he will become the captain of this team.

“He is so strong and to be honest there is nobody who deserves this title more.” As quoted by Goal.

While Kompany is currently captain, his current contract expires in July and the club have yet to come to terms over a fresh deal.
