Tottenham have offer rejected for former Manchester United defender

According to a report from L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur have been rebuffed in an attempt to sign Olympique Lyonnais defender Rafael Da Silva.

    PL experience

Rafael,  a 27-year-old Brazilian right-back, lined out for Premier League giants Manchester United from 2008 to 2015, making over 100 English top-flight appearances over that period.

    Spurs interest

This experience at the top level of English football, in addition to his impressive campaign last year at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, have reportedly led Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to viewing Rafael as an ideal candidate to replace Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker at White Hart Lane.

The interest on the part of the North London club is so significant, in fact, that Tottenham made a considerable bid for the Lyon man two weeks ago, as per the aforementioned report from L’Equipe.

The Ligue 1 side turned down the offer without a second thought, however, with Rafael having been joined by the aging Christophe Jallet as the club’s only recognised senior right-backs at the time of the offer.

However, the situation at the former giants of French football has since changed, with Lyon having signed promising 21-year-old Dutch right-back Kenny Tete from Ajax earlier this week.

As a result, a second offer on the part of Spurs for Rafael could see Lyon prove considerably more open to releasing the South American defender this summer.
