Stan Collymore makes a 2019-20 Liverpool prediction

    Stan Collymore’s 2019-20 Liverpool prediction

In his weekly column for the Mirror, columnist Stan Collymore has looked ahead to the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Collymore’s article is negative about Liverpool’s title chances next year. He opens by saying:

I don’t buy into the theory that Liverpool will automatically be Manchester City’s main challengers next season just because they ran them so close this time.

So what’s the basis of Collymore’s belief that Liverpool may regress next term?

The pundit left himself open to claims of whataboutism with his justification:

If Jurgen Klopp’s men were to lose to Tottenham in the Champions League final, having been pipped by City in the Premier League, then it would be a massive hammer blow for them mentally and could have an impact on them going again next term.

Collymore also suggested that Liverpool should sign Ruben Neves from Wolves this summer.

    Liverpool’s incredible 2018-19 stats

Reds goalie Alisson won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award after keeping 21 shutouts in 38 league matches.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane jointly won the Premier League Golden Boot award after scoring 22 league goals.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also shared the prize after finishing on the same tally.

Liverpool finished the season on 97 points, just one less than Man City.

Liverpool’s points tally is the third highest in Premier League history.

Jurgen Klopp’s men also only lost one match in the Premier League all season.

By contrast, Man City lost four times.
