Newcastle fans revel in Ipswich’s demise after Paul Lambert’s Rafa Benitez comments

    Ipswich relegated to League One

A 1-1 draw at home against Birmingham City confirmed Ipswich Town’s relegation.

In the first season after Mike McCarthy’s exit from Portman Road, the Tractor Boys have dropped out the Championship into League One.

Ipswich’s relegation has been a forgone conclusion for a while. They are bottom of the second tier with just 28 points from 42 games.

Ipswich have only won four matches all season.

Paul Lambert on Newcastle’s Rafa Benitez

It’s not been a great twelve months for Paul Lambert.

Lambert took over at Stoke City in attempt to keep the Potters in the 2017-18 Premier League.

    He failed.

Ipswich then hired Lambert to keep them in the Championship.

    He failed again.

After the Birmingham match, Newcastle fans are recycling an old video of Lambert during an appearance on beIN Sports.

In the clip, Lambert was hugely disparaging of the tactics employed by Rafa Benitez at Newcastle. Speaking after a defeat at Man City, Lambert said:

[Would you set up like that?] No, not if I was manager of Newcastle because I think 50,000 that turn who are used to Sir Bobby Robson or Kevin Keegan – all out attack.

In a stadium as vibrant, you could hear a pin drop. I wouldn’t have liked to have played in it or managed it. I could understand if it was a team from the lower leagues; OK sit, two banks of four but not when you’re that level.
