Graduate rescued from jumping into Lagos lagoon

The Police in Lagos State yesterday rescued an accounting graduate (name withheld) from jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.

The young man was rescued by the Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) who were on routine patrol of the area.

An RRS officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “When we saw the man moving suspiciously, we started monitoring his activity. We saw him looking into the lagoon; behaving as if he was saying his last prayers and we held him.

“We interrogated him and he confessed that he was tired of life. He told us that he wanted to end his life because he had no job after many years that he graduated from the university. We arrested him and handed him over to the Adekunle Police Station.”

The police source said after investigation, it would be decided whether to charge the man with attempted suicide or not, adding that, “It is a serious offence to take your life. Suicide is a serious offence all over the world.”
