Fulham turn down £20m bid for star man Tom Cairney

Fulham have today turned down a £20m offer from West Ham for Tom Cairney, according to Sky Sports News.

West Ham did bid for Cairney in January and the midfielder was said to be keen on the move. However, with Fulham now promoted, Cairney may no longer desire to leave Fulham.

    Playmaker

Cairney began his senior career with Hull City for whom he made 80 appearances, scoring five and assisting 11 in that time.

The midfielder then moved to Blackburn in January of 2014 after spending some time on loan there. Cairney played 85 games for Blackburn, scoring nine and assisting 16 in those games.

Cairney would move to current club Fulham in 2015 for a fee in the region of £3.78 million. The Scotsman has played 130 games for Fulham, scoring 27 and assisting 23, an impressive record for a central midfielder.

This impressive record has seemingly attracted a lot of interest from West Ham who want to add him to their ever-changing squad.

    New look squad

West Ham have recently appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss and Pellegrini is set to be given up to £75 million in order to bring some fresh legs to West Ham.

When appointed West Ham boss, Pellegrini stated:

“West Ham had a difficult season last season and I hope that next season we are going to play football that will delight the fans.

“I always play attacking football and we must try to reach important targets in the season.

“I am excited about this project. My mentality is always to have a winning mentality and I will hope that I can repeat here what I did with all my clubs here in Europe, where I have always arrived in European competition.”

The Hammers have already signed Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop and Lukas Fabianski but they are still looking to improve upon their squad this summer.

Given his ability and leadership qualities, Cairney could well be the perfect signing for Pellegrini’s new look West Ham side and could join the likes of Felipe Anderson who is close to joining the Hammers.
