Everton clear out begins as defender leaves for La Liga

    Mass exodus

Everton have begun their summer clear out under Marco Silva and Marcel Brands after it was announced that one defender has left for a La Liga club.

That defender comes in the form of Argentina centre-back Ramiro Funes Mori who was confirmed to have joined Villarreal today.

Mori was signed under Roberto Martinez and never really got himself going in a blue shirt.

His Aerial Ability in the opposition was second to none but he was always prone to an error or a lack of judgement.

That was emphasised when he threw in a two-footed tackle in the Merseyside derby, before walking off kissing the back having been sent off.

A serious knee injury meant that he would struggle to have any impact during Ronald Koeman’s tenure and he returned to action this season.

His time to shine was already gone though, as he struggled to get back into the team and demanded to be moved on this summer.

Funes Mori during the Premier League match between Stoke City and Everton at Bet365 Stadium on February 1, 2017 in Stoke on Trent, England.

    How much?!

He got his wish when he joined Villarreal today but there is something very interesting about the deal and that is the fee Everton have reportedly received.

That is because SporX are reporting that the Toffees received a whopping £17.5m for the defender.

It was expected that they would not even be able to recoup more than the £9million they spent on him when he signed from River Plate.

Safe to say, new Director of Football Marcel Brands has already won some fans over.

It will be very interesting to see how much money they can recoup for the likes of Ashley Williams, Morgan Schneiderlin and more.

Ramiro Funes Mori is by no means the only player that will be shown the door this summer.

Wayne Rooney will likely be the most player to leave the club as he closes in on a move to the MLS.

Now, Steven Gerrard has urged him to make the leap.
