England heartbreak as football isn’t coming home

    Out

It was a step too far.

England had the lead early on, but they lost control of the game in the second half, and despite getting to extra time against Croatia, they failed to get to a penalty shootout, with Mario Mandzukic scoring to make it 2-1 and England going behind in the game.

They tried and tried, and brought Jamie Vardy on but it was too much for Gareth Southgate’s young side, who fell at the semi-final hurdle, and couldn’t quite make it over the finish line.

Their lack of experience compared to Croatia’s golden generation being at their absolute peak in terms of mental strength showed in the second half, and mistakes were made as a shattered Luka Modric and co managed to get over the line and see their team in the final to take on France.

Quite if Croatia will be at their best against France considering their players look spent of energy remains to be seen, but England are going home – yet despite that, did themselves proud.
