Croatia boss Dalic slams Argentina’s Jorge Sampaoli: ‘He will never be a big coach’

Zlatko Dalić, the manager of the Croatian national team, has this afternoon taken aim at Argentina counterpart Jorge Sampaoli.

The two countries went head to head in a World Cup group stage clash on Thursday evening, with Argentina having been desperate for all 3 points following their disappointing 1-1 draw with Iceland in their tournament opener.

However, the Albiceleste went on to implode in spectacular fashion in Nizhny Novgorod, with a dismal all-round performance on the part of the South Americans having eventually seen Croatia run out 3-0 winners courtesy of goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Argentina’s World Cup hopes now hang by a thread, with Nigeria’s surprise 2-0 victory over Iceland yesterday evening having provided a lifeline for the 2-time competition winners.

In the aftermath of the Albiceleste’s appalling start to their World Cup campaign, a number of individuals have been singled out for heavy criticism by both fans and the media alike.

    Lionel Messi Argentina World Cup

While the likes of Lionel Messi, Nicolas Otamendi and Javier Mascherano have all been targeted as scapegoats, no-one in the Argentina camp has been more persistently slated than manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Former Chile and Sevilla boss Sampaoli has looked frankly clueless in his team selections, with the lack of individual brilliance on display from Argentina’s rake of attacking stars having largely stemmed from a complete lack of any form of game-plan (other than everybody give the ball to Messi).

‘You have got to be a man’

And the latest individual to take aim at the 58-year-old is Croatia boss Zlatko Dalić.

Speaking in an interview with 24Sata earlier today, Dalic attacked the character of Sampaoli, after revealing that the Argentinian tactician did not even bother to shake his hand following the full-time whistle on Thursday night:

‘Sampaoli didn’t even greet or congratulate me after the game. I have never left the pitch before shaking hands with the coach of the opponent whether I won or lost. I even gave him a Croatian kit before the game. Now I hope he will remember it forever.’

Dalic also went on to reveal his opinion that Sampaoli will never be considered as a top coach if he continues to act in such a disrespectful manner:

‘You have got to be a man and congratulate the opponent no matter what happens. Sampaoli didn’t do that and in my eyes you will never become a big coach if you behave like that.’
