Confirmed: West Ham United sign Mario Husillos

West Ham United sign Mario Husillos

How important will this be for West Ham United?

The Hammers have confirmed on Wednesday the appointment of Mario Husillos.

Husillos is joining the Irons to become their brand new director of football.

Of course, West Ham will look a lot different next season. David Moyes has left the club while former Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini is now in charge.

    Who is Mario Husillos?

West Ham have told their fans the following about Mario Husillos:

The experienced and widely respected Argentinian joins the Hammers after a spell as sporting director at Malaga, where in 2012/13 he worked with the Club’s new manager Manuel Pellegrini through the most-successful period in the Spanish side’s history.

Husillos is credited for bringing several outstanding players to La Rosaleda, helping Malaga reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and finish sixth in La Liga in that period.

Husillos, 59, has penned a three year agreement with West Ham.

He is credited with having previously recruited Argentina striker Javier Saviola, Paraguay centre forward Roque Santa Cruz and Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

    Manuel Lanzini blow

West Ham fans will be praying their club sign several new players in the transfer window.

The Hammers narrowly avoided relegation last season. While the Irons have already been hit with a serious blow before the start of the new campaign as Manuel Lanzini is a long term injury problem.

Lanzini has been sent home from Argentina’s World Cup camp after rupturing his ACL.

West Ham fans are waiting to find out how long Lanzini will be out for. But it would no surprise if he only returned to the pitch in 2019.
