Clement Lenglet’s agent provides update on future amid Barcelona links

The agent of Sevilla star Clement Lenglet last night opened up on the subject of his client’s future, amid widespread reports that the Frenchman has agreed to join Barcelona.

    Impressive performer

Lenglet, a 22-year-old central defender, has been on the books of Sevilla since January of last year, when he made the move to Andalusia from French outfit Nancy for 5 million Euro.

In hindsight, the move has proven an absolute masterstroke on the part of Sevilla, with Lenglet having emerged as one of the Spanish top-flight’s most impressive stoppers this past season.

The French youth international appeared in 35 of his side’s 38 La Liga fixtures (33 starts), notching 3 goals and 1 assist in the process, as well as proving a key factor in the club’s surprise run to the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League.

    Barca bound?

Unsurprisingly, Lenglet’s stellar showings for Sevilla have led to links between the no-nonsense stopper and some of European football’s biggest clubs, with Barcelona the side most persistently touted as a potential destination.

The Blaugrana are thought to be on the lookout for central defensive reinforcements this summer, with Yerry Mina having so far struggled to impress following his arrival from Palmeiras in January, and Gerard Pique entering the twilight of his career.

As such, Lenglet, with his youth and room for growth, is reportedly viewed by the board at the Camp Nou as the ideal defensive signing this summer.

    ‘Not yet made a decision’

And, after Mundo Deportivo reported early last month that Barca and the stopper’s entourage had agreed personal terms over a 5-year contract, Cadena Cope went on to reveal that the Blaugrana were ready to activate his 35 million Euro release clause imminently.

However, to this point, no developments have been forthcoming, with Lenglet’s agent, Gregory Dakad, having opened up on the subject of his client’s future last night.

Speaking in an interview with ABC, Dakad revealed that the French defender has in fact not yet made his mind up regarding where he will be plying his trade next season:

‘I know you’re talking about a lot of things, but Lenglet has not yet made a decision.’

‘He is listening, analysing… although I insist that it cannot be said that he will not be at Sevilla next season.’
