Boost for Tottenham as defender signs new long-term contract

Tottenham Hotspur have this afternoon confirmed that defender Davinson Sanchez has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.

    Dominant stopper

Sanchez, a 21-year-old Colombian international, only arrived in North London last summer from Dutch giants Ajax, for a rumoured fee of £42 million.

Despite his tender years and lack of experience at the top level, though, Sanchez has since gone on to establish himself as an absolute mainstay in the backline of Mauricio Pochettino, doing a splendid job of filling the void left by injured and out-of-favour contract rebel Toby Alderweireld.

Sanchez started in 29 of Tottenham’s 38 Premier League fixtures, as well as all 8 of their outings in the Champions League, and looks set to be a pillar in the club’s defence for years to come.

    Staying put

And, as per the aforementioned announcement from Spurs this afternoon, despite having only made the move to the Premier League 9 months ago, Sanchez has already been rewarded for his showings in North London with a new long-term contract, set to keep the powerful stopper tied down until the summer of 2024:
