Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi admits it would be ‘terrible’ to see Neymar at Real Madrid

Lionel Messi has today discussed the rumours that Neymar could join Real Madrid from PSG at the end of the season.

Following months of speculation, South American attacker Neymar finally made the move from Barcelona to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in August of last year, for a world-record fee of 222 million Euro.

The 26-year-old went on to enjoy a scintillating start to life in the French capital, racking up an incredible 25 goals and 16 assists in his first 27 appearances between Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

However, a broken metatarsal bone in his right foot, picked up during a clash with Marseille in February, has seen Neymar sidelined ever since, derailing what looked set to be a spectacular debut campaign at the Parc des Princes (though he was nevertheless named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year).

    On the move?

Despite his brilliance on the pitch this season, though, reports have nevertheless been rife in both France and Spain that the fleet-footed attacker could be set to depart Paris this summer, less than a year after his record-breaking arrival.

The early-season troubles between he and Edinson Cavani were already rumoured to have seen Neymar considering his position with PSG, with the clear lack of progress made by the recently-crowned Ligue 1 champions in the Champions League this season having also reportedly left the Selecao star frustrated.

Despite their fierce rivalry with Neymar’s former club, Barcelona, European champions Real Madrid have been the club most heavily-touted as a potential destination for the Brazilian, with Los Blancos known to be on the lookout for reinforcements in attacking areas.

    ‘A tough blow’

Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports earlier today, Blaugrana superstar Lionel Messi, who enjoyed 4 spectacular seasons alongside Neymar at the Camp Nou, was questioned on the possibility that his former teammate and close friend could join Barca’s fiercest rivals this summer, with the Argentine attacker having hardly beaten around the bush with his response:

‘It would be terrible because of everything that Ney means to Barcelona.’

‘Although [Neymar’s time in Barcelona] ended the way it did, he won important titles here, he won the Champions League, he won La Liga.’

‘If he ends up in Madrid it would be a tough blow for us and for all of Barcelona.’

‘And on a football level, it would make Madrid much stronger than they already are.’
