Bad for Everton: Inter Milan join race to sign William Carvalho

According to Sky Sports Italia reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan has joined the race to sign former Sporting player and Everton target William Carvalho.

This is surely bad news for Everton as given Inter Milan have Champions League football next season, Carvalho will likely favour a move to them this summer.

    Terminated contract

Everton’s interest in Carvalho comes on the back of some seriously troubling times at Sporting.

Several weeks ago it was reported that a group of hooded supporters armed with sticks and belts attacked players and staff at Sporting’s training complex.

After said attacks, the club released a statement.

“Sporting Club of Portugal vehemently repudiate the incidents registered today at the Sporting academy.

“We cannot in any form be associated with acts of vandalism and aggression towards players, coaches and staff of the professional football department, nor with attitudes which constitute the practice of a crime.

“This is not and cannot be Sporting. We will take every measure we can to find those responsible for what happened and we will not shy away from demanding punishments for those who acted in this absolutely lamentable manner.”

In the wake of the attack, many Sporting players have come out and expressed a fear for their safety with many players terminating their contract with Sporting, Carvalho being one of them.

    Defensive unit

Carvalho has spent his full career with Sporting Lisbon. However, he did enjoy a loan spell at Belgium side Cercle Brugge in 2013 where he made 52 appearances scoring three and assisting three.

As for Sporting, Carvalho has racked up 193 appearances for the Portuguese side scoring 11 and assisting 14.

Carvalho is also a proven leader as he has captained Sporting many times this season when he was not out injured.

Furthermore, at 6 foot 1 Carvalho is an incredibly strong centre defensive midfielder who has helped guide Sporting to one Portuguese Cup win, one Portuguese League Cup win and one Portuguese Super Cup win.

Marco Silva has also worked with Carvalho when he was the manager of Sporting Lisbon and Silva even lead Sporting to a cup final victory.

Now, it seems as though Silva wishes to reunite with his former player at his new home, Everton. However, Silva could be set to lose out on Carvalho to Inter Milan.
