Ashley Barnes picked up one of the most bizarre bookings in PL history vs Cardiff

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes was this afternoon handed a yellow card during his side’s clash with Cardiff, following a baffling exchange with Joe Bennett.

    Burnley 1-0 Cardiff

The Clarets welcomed Neil Warnock’s Cardiff to Turf Moor a short time ago, for a crucial fixture in the battle for Premier League survival.

Hosts Burnley headed into proceedings aware that a victory would see them all-but secure their top-flight status for another season.

Cardiff, on the other hand, could not afford another loss, with the Bluebirds having sat 5 points adrift of safety ahead of kick-off.

When all was said and done at Turf Moor, though, fall to defeat was precisely what the visitors did.

The only goal of the clash came just beyond the half-hour mark, courtesy of Chris Wood.

However, the main talking point in the aftermath of the 90 minutes in Lancashire has not surrounded Wood’s strike, or Burnley’s victory.

It has in fact circulated around one of the most bizarre yellow cards in the recent history of the Premier League.

The incident in question came on the stroke of half-time, after a challenge between Ashley Barnes and Joe Bennett resulted in the pair going head-to-head in a heated exchange.

Barnes, though, rather than lash out at Bennett, opted to lay a kiss on the nose of the Cardiff stopper:

Incredibly, Barnes then went back for more:

Referee Mike Dean quickly brandished a yellow card in Barnes’ direction following the coming-together, with the incident having since gone viral online.
