Arsenal and Monaco knocked back in bids for Roma star

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, both Arsenal and Monaco have seen offers for AS Roma starlet Cengiz Under rejected.

    Highly-sought after

Under, a 20-year-old Turkish international, arrived at the Stadio Olimpico from İstanbul Başakşehir last summer, following a hugely-impressive solitary campaign with the Super Lig outfit.

Roma were rumoured to have beaten off interest from some of European football’s biggest clubs in securing a deal for the fleet-footed wide-man, with both Manchester United and Barcelona named as long-term admirers.

After struggling to find his feet during the early months of his time in the Italian capital, Under has since burst onto the scene with a string of sensational displays for Roma since the turn of the year.

Having failed to find the net during his first 6 months with the club, the winger went on to net 5 times over the space of 4 fixtures between the 4th and 21st of February, finally showcasing to fans of Eusebio Di Francesco’s men exactly why the club had agreed to fork out over 13 million Euro for his signature.

All told, Under has racked up 8 goals and 2 assists across all competitions to this point in the campaign.

    Knocked back

And, as per the aforementioned report from Tuttomercatoweb, the Giallorossi star’s showings over the last few months have certainly not gone unnoticed across Europe, amid claims that both Arsenal and Monaco have submitted official offers for Under.

Arsenal’s bid is said to have been worth 30 million Euro, whilst Monaco stumped up an offer of 5 million Euro more.

However, Tuttomercatoweb are insistent in their belief that Roma rejected both offers out of hand, with the capital giants demanding at least 50 million Euro to even begin negotiations.
