Xavi: Youngsters who leave Barcelona should not be brought back

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has today revealed his opinion that youngsters who leave the club of their own accord should not be re-signed by the Blaugrana at a later date.

The subject of promising youngsters departing the Liga giants has been widely covered of late, following both Jordi Mboula and Eric Garcia deciding to leave the famed La Masia academy to try their luck elsewhere.

Another prodigious teen who made the move away from Catalunya at an early age was Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin, who, of course, the Spanish giants have been publicly chasing for some time now.

This is a topic that one former Barca hero feels very strongly about, with Camp Nou favourite Xavi insistent that any player who makes the decision to leave the club should not be brought back under any circumstances.

Speaking to Diario Sport, the 37-year-old had the following to say regarding the Blaugrana’s interest in Bellerin:

‘I haven’t seen him play a lot, but what I will say is I find it difficult to accept signing a player who was already at the club.’

‘Of course it can work out, but I would not sign players who leave. Why are they leaving at 16, 17? I find it baffling. I just don’t understand it.’

When questioned on the specific departures of the aforementioned duo of Mboula and Garcia, the World Cup winner was just as adamant, emphasizing:

‘Yes, their decisions surprised me. I wouldn’t buy them back in the future. That would be my philosophy. You were at the club, you decided to leave, so you don’t then come back.’
