The Golden Globes 74th Annual Award ceremony took place on Sunday 8th of January, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles, California. The award which honours the best in America’s film and Television was hosted by actor and talk-show host Jimmy Fallon.

The star-studded award ceremony was attended by Caucasian and ethnic-minority Nominees, winners and other Hollywood brightest including Tracee Ellis Ross, Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, Hugh Laurie,  Ben Affleck, Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Bob Thornton, Actor and Rapper Childish Gambino real name Donald Glover and much more. They were all treated to mini bottles of Moët & Chandon, the official champagne of the Golden Globes.

In 2014, black actress and Oscar winner for best supporting actress in 2012 Octavia Spencer reported that black and ethnic-minority (Hispanic and Asian) actors and actresses are still struggling to make it in Hollywood including well-known and established talented ones still sometimes get offered supporting instead of leading roles by Hollywood film studios. It’s even more difficult for black women in Hollywood to make it.

On that note, we thought we show our support and celebrate Black women who were either nominated or won at the 2017 Golden Globes award ceremony. In spite of challenges in Hollywood, they are still making waves. These talented and hardworking black women show Black girl power  all the way. Black girls do really rock.
