    Uganda’s president appoints his own son as special adviser

    On Tuesday, 10th January 2017, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni appointed his son, Major General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as his senior adviser, a move that analysts say is part of a plan to groom him to take over the top job.

    Human rights lawyer and political commentator Andrew Karamagi described the appointment as a “real clear move to bring the man closer to succession.”

    However, the military stated that the president’s son was moved from his position as the head of the army’s Special Forces. But most importantly, political rivals have constantly accused the 72- year old president of handing powerful positions to members of his family and therefore, implementing an increasingly autocratic style.
