Toyota unveiled its 2018 NASCAR Camry alongside the completely unrelated real Camry

Toyota is really excited about its participation in NASCAR, despite a connection to its consumer cars thinner than the decals that identify it as a Camry. Disbelief in the branding fiction aside, the restyled stock car will race this year and try to protect its 2016 manufacturer's championship.

Toyota started racing the Camry in NASCAR back in 2007, and since then the team won a driver's championship in 2015 followed by the manufacturer's championship the next year.

And the stock car will also debut at Daytona next month, well before the road-going version's debuts in August. It must be easier to tool up to build vinyl decals than entire cars. The 2018 NASCAR Camry will race with three teams: Joe Gibbs Racing, Furniture Row Racing, and BK Racing. Two names you might know – Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin – will field the new-look Camry.
