Southampton blow: Allardyce offers huge update on Arsenal’s Theo Walcott

    In talks

Sam Allardyce has claimed Everton are in talks to sign Theo Walcott, offering a huge blow to Southampton, who were of course also hopeful of landing the Arsenal forward.

Walcott himself is happy to leave the Gunners after failing to hold down a first team place, and is aware that he needs to be playing for a side week in, week out if he wants to be on the plane to Russia this summer for the World Cup, and it seems that Allardyce is a huge fan of the player and wants to try and add him to his squad.

BBC Sport report Allardyce said: “I don’t think there’s a chance of a loan. It’s not imminent but negotiations are going on.

“I don’t get optimistic otherwise I get disappointed. I’ll be very excited and enthused when someone, even if it’s not Theo, has signed on the dotted line.

“He’s scored 100 goals for Arsenal from wide positions.

“His pace is a key strength which we lack. To add goals would be very important for me. And he’s only 28.

“If it’s possible to be over the line I’d be delighted. If that can be sorted out it would be a great addition from an attacking point of view.”

    Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refuted these claims in his presser, and said that for now, Walcott is still an Arsenal player, though how long that will be for remains to be seen.

The club are set to undergo a huge overhaul this summer, with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil looking to be on their way out the door and the future of Jack Wilshere in serious doubt, and it seems the clearout of long term players could be starting early if Walcott does leave for Everton this winter.
