Ousmane Dembele indefinitely suspended by Borussia Dortmund as Barcelona saga drags on

    Ousmane Dembele indefinitely suspended

Ever since Neymar made his move from Barcelona to PSG, Ousmane Dembele has been seen as the most likely replacement for the Brazilian superstar.

The 222 million euros received by Neymar looks set to be spent on two players: Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund attacker Ousmane Dembele.

And, as it stands, both Coutinho and Dembele are really forcing their respective clubs to leave Barcelona.

Borussia Dortmund official statement on Ousmane Dembele

Late last week, Dembele went AWOL with rumours rife that Barcelona had upped their bid for the French attacker.

There were even claims that Dembele was travelling to Barcelona to complete his move.

Dortmund announced that no deal had been agreed and that they could not find the player.

Subsequently, the German side announced they would hold a meeting about Dembele on Saturday evening.

    The Borussia Dortmund statement

Borussia Dortmund announced on Sunday morning that they have “decided to keep the suspension of the player Ousmane Dembélé from first team training until further notice.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and Peter Bosz were together on the first day of the first round of the 1. FC Rielasingen-Arlen on Saturday evening.

“Our focus now is on a concentrated preparation of the team for the Bundesliga opening match against Wolfsburg this coming weekend,” explains Zorc: “Ousmane Dembélé, of course, has the possibility to train individually away from the group.”

Apart from this, Borussia Dortmund will not comment any further on the facts.

Barcelona must now be confident of signing Dembele…

With over two weeks left of the summer transfer window, Borussia Dortmund are now in a rather sticky situation.

Much like as Coutinho missed Liverpool’s opening match versus Watford, it seems certain that Dembele will not play in the Bundesliga this weekend.

Nor at home to Hertha Berlin on the following weekend, before the summer transfer window ends.

Can either Liverpool of Dortmund hold onto their star men once their heads have been turned by Barcelona?

Dortmund won 4-0 at Rielasingen-Arlen in the DFB Pokal on Saturday. Marc Bartra bagged the opener. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang claimed a hat-trick.
