Newcastle fans panic after being ravaged by injuries ahead of Huddersfield game

    Injuries and a thin squad

It’s the same old story for Newcastle United.

They’re worried that owner Mike Ashley hasn’t been generous with the transfer cash this summer – and Rafa Benitez has made that very clear. There have even been rumours about the manager’s future, and in the opening game, the worst case scenario happened.

The Magpies saw two injuries in the first half, and had to sub off debutante Florian Lejeune and also Paul Dummett, and the fans were already taking to social media to talk about the interview Mike Ashley gave to Sky Sports before the game, claiming they cannot financially cope with other clubs and keep up with their spending – and worry about what they were going to do if the injuries kept coming.

Ashley claimed he just wanted to stay in the Premier League this season, and was giving Benitez ‘every penny’ – something the fans were already questioning.

    Ashley issues

The owner isn’t the most popular in the north-east anyway, and said interview only looked like making things far worse for him.

Manager Benitez is somewhat of a cult hero for the fans, and they’re hoping he stays for a long, long time – but without the transfer funds, the manager will be off – and the club left struggling once again.

Ashley said to Sky in the exclusive interview“If you said to me I am wealthy – in theory I am a billionaire or maybe a multi-billionaire – but in reality my wealth is all in Sports Direct shares.

“As I said the other day, it is like wallpaper. I don’t have that cash in the bank so I don’t have the ability to write a cheque for £200m. I don’t have it, it’s simple.

“I would have to sell the Sports Direct shares to fund that. The way it is sometimes portrayed in wealth terms is as though it is in the bank, it’s not.

“And I have to make it clear that I am nowhere near wealthy enough in football now to compete with the likes of Man City and others where it is a wealthy individual taking on what is the equivalent of countries. I cannot and I will not.”
