Newcastle & Arsenal line up a double deal

    Newcastle are back

On Sunday afternoon, Newcastle United return to England’s top flight to host the side they humiliated 5-1 in their last Premier League game, two seasons ago, Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham will, therefore, undoubtedly have their sights set on retribution on their return to St James’ Park.

The Toon will surely come out the blocks flying but will Spurs have too much quality?

    Benitez wants to buy

In the build up to the new season, Newcastle fans have been calling for the club to make new signings.

Indeed, manager Rafa Benitez is also pushing for new deals to be completed. But will they happen? The Times last week reported that before the Toon sign, they must first shift players who are surplus to requirements.

So far this summer, Newcastle have signed Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo and Mikel Merino.

    Double Arsenal swoop

On Sunday, the Sun link the Magpies with a possible double swoop for two Arsenal players.

The first target is midfielder Jack Wilshere, and the second is forward Lucas Perez.

On Wilshere, the red-top report that “the midfielder is resigned to leaving Arsenal.” But will he join the Magpies? Readers are told:

West Ham, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are also interested — along with Roma, Juventus and Lazio.

Wilshere’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could be available for a cut-price bargain.

As for Perez, it’s clear he has no future with the Gunners since the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

The Toon, however, are battling with Brighton for the Spanish striker’s signature. The Sun report:

Arsenal are demanding a stunning £20 million for Spanish outcast Lucas Perez.

The hefty price tag has cooled interest in a permanent deal from Newcastle and Prem new-boys Brighton.

It’s thought Newcastle will try to sign Perez in a season-long loan deal.
