Marco Asensio & Arsenal: Real Madrid hold ’emergency talks’

    Real Madrid hold ’emergency talks’

All eyes will again be on Spain on Sunday night.

Following their meeting in the Miami El Clasico a few weeks ago, Barcelona and Real Madrid will face-off tonight in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

Barca beat Real 3-2 in the pre-season match in the United States.

Since, the Catalans have seen Neymar leave the Camp Nou to join PSG.

But, in the morning of Sunday’s game, the big news in the Sunday Mirror is that Madrid forward Marco Asensio could be on his way to Arsenal.

Indeed, Los Blancos are set to hold “emergency talks” with the Spanish starlet.

    What’s the story?

Asensio, 21, is under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2022.

But the reports out of Spain, echoed by the Mirror, are that Arsenal could be about to make a move. Readers are told:

Marco Asensio has requested ’emergency talks’ with Real Madrid bosses over Arsenal’s interest.

The Gunners had been interested in breaking his £72m release clause according to Diario Gol.

Asensio has no interest in leaving the Bernabeu but wants to up his annual salary to £5.5m a year.

Asensio scored 10 goals for Real as they won La Liga and the Champions League last term.

    How likely is the deal?

How much will Asensio play this season?

The striker has a hard job on his hands to break into Real’s XI, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale at the club.

But, Real will likely play over 60 matches this season, so Asensio will have opportunities, especially off the bench.

It’s also worth noting the source of the Asensio-Arsenal story: Spanish outlet Diario Gol.

They have a sketchy record when it comes to predicting transfers, so Gunners fans should be advised to keep hopes low of Asensio signing on.
