Liverpool boss Klopp has strong words for the FA after Mane suspension upheld

    Waste of time

Jurgen Klopp has hit out at the FA following Liverpool’s appeal against the red card handed to Sadio Mane after his clash with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

The red card split fans and pundits, with some claiming it was a red card and others noting it was nothing of the sort, and Liverpool clearly felt it was the latter, and appealed the three game ban – which will not be upheld.

The Express report he said: “I didn’t expect something different.

“It was really our duty to appeal. But it was a waste of time obviously.

“Our appeal was right because I could say if we would appealed the red card but we didn’t.

“We only appealed the length of the suspension. I never thought it would happen but only because I am used to it to things like this. There were a lot of situations which were similar.

“All the other players were lucky only Sadio was not lucky. And obviously Ederson was not lucky. It looks really awful and he was also lucky nothing more serious happened.”

    Champions League return

Liverpool are of course returning to the Champions League this week, and will face Sevilla, hoping to get revenge for the Europa League final defeat the La Liga side inflicted on them.

Getting out of their group will be the top priority for Klopp’s men, with Liverpool hoping to not only challenge for the title this season but also get into the latter stages of the Champions League and face the best sides in Europe.

They managed to keep Philippe Coutinho, despite the player handing in a transfer request and Barcelona making several bids for him – but Klopp is being coy on if the creative star will feature or not, claiming that he is fit, but there are no guarantees he will be selected.
