The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council,JPSNC in Taraba State has directed the state civil servants to embark on indefinite strike in protest against the ‘paltry’ N67 million approved to them by the state government for payment of outstanding promotions arrears and yearly increments.
In a statement jointly signed by the council’s chairman, Mr. John Ojo, and its secretary, Mr Abubakar Baffa and a copy made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Jalingo said the approval was aimed at dividing the workers.
According to the statement, the approved sum only covers 2017, wondering what happens to their entitlements for 2016 and 2017.
“Why did the state executive council propose payment in phases if there is sincerity of purpose? Note that the idea of payment in phases is to divide workers and reduce our collective strength.
“Fellow workers, we urge you not to be deceived into accepting the coordinated propaganda which is capable of driving you into missing the true points of our genuine demand.
“Finally, workers are directed to stay at home as from Tuesday, 13 March, 2018, in conformity with our resolutions, please,” the statement said.
