Huge update on Diego Costa’s Chelsea future as he nears Atletico deal

    Breakthrough

Atletico Madrid have reportedly made a breakthrough in talks with Chelsea over the signing of striker Diego Costa in the winter transfer window.

The Spaniard’s standoff with the London club continues with the player and his representative Jorge Mendes demanding Chelsea agree a deal with Atletico Madrid for his Spanish return.

A deal was not agreed during the summer transfer window but neither clubs were in a rush to agree a deal anyway, with Atletico unable to register Costa until January with their transfer ban.

That has meant that the player is still in the dark about his future and was due to return to Chelsea on Tuesday to train with the reserve side.

Though, there have been reports from Sky Sports News this afternoon that suggest a breakthrough has been made and a deal could be nearing completion.

Costa’s Chelsea nightmare could soon be over but there is no doubt some hurdles remaining if the player is to move during the winter window.

    Missed flight

Diego Costa failed to make a flight return to Chelsea on Tuesday, with the seat booked for the Spaniard to leave from Sao Paolo on Monday.

That was until the player did not get on the flight and Marca report that there was a change of plan, with Costa’s representatives seemingly suggesting he should wait it out.

Chelsea demanded that the player should return to the club otherwise they will refuse to negotiate with Atletico Madrid after the players’ breach of contract.

There are now suggestions that they are softening on that stance and just want to try and reach a deal with Atletico in the coming months.

We will have to keep a close eye on this one.
