Gianluigi Donnarumma’s brilliant reaction to Italy (AC Milan) fans throwing fake money

    Denmark U21 0 – Italy U21 2

Generally, there would not have been too much interest in Italy’s Under-21 win over Denmark on Sunday evening.

Granted, Lorenzo Pellegrini scored a wonder goal for Italy and they do look the most likely team to get close to Spain and Marco Asensio in the tournament in Poland.

But it was the merging of club and international football that really caught attention, specifically the future of 18-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

    “Dollarumma”

Even before the Denmark-Italy game, it became clear that there were angry AC Milan fans waiting to vent their anger at Donnarumma.

Behind the Italy goal in the first half was a banner that simply said “Dollarumma”.

Towards the end of the first half of the European Under-21 Championships match fake dollar bills began to rein down on Donnarumma’s goal.

Referee Ivan Kružliak called halt to proceedings so that the money could be cleared up.

    “Sorriso sempre”

After Italy Under-21s had beaten Denmark, the Italian press briefly caught up with Donnarumma.

The young custodian said just two words but it shows just what a level headed teenager the giant goalkeeper is.

Donnarumma said: “Sorriso sempre”. “Always smile”. Which is about as good a possible way to deal with the very public abuse he received from the Italy (AC Milan) fans.

Who will Gianluigi Donnarumma play for next season?

Going into last week, it looked likely that Gianluigi Donnarumma would come to a new agreement with AC Milan, as he has just one year left on his current deal at the San Siro.

AC Milan held a meeting with super agent Mino Raiola and no agreement was found, with 18-year-old Donnarumma now looking like one of the most attractive players on the market.

Real Madrid and Juventus are the favourites to sign the successor to Gianluigi Buffon. Manchester United, a regular client of Mino Raiola, have also been linked with Donnarumma.
