Arsenal talks over Corinthians’ Maycon confirmed

    Arsenal, Corinthians & Maycon

A fresh report has popped up in the Brazilian media on Tuesday linking Arsenal with a swoop for Corinthians midfielder Maycon.

The story has come from UOL Esporte, who are one of the more reliable sources of a news in Brazil.

They’ve announced that Arsenal have already held talks with representatives of Maycon. Moreover, the 20-year-old midfielder is keen on joining the Gunners.

Yet there’s competition for the player. Shakhtar Donetsk and Napoli are also in the running for Maycon.

    Who is Maycon?

Yet to make a senior international debut, Maycon has been capped at under-20 level by Brazil.

The youngster is a central midfielder, who scored four goals and chipped in with four assists last season.

Maycon is a product of the Corinthians youth system, and last season he was a key member of the team which won the Brazilian championship.

Known for his left-foot, and with a taste for a goal from distance, Maycon could be seen as direct competition for Swiss international Granit Xhaka.

It’s believed Corinthians would want around 9 million pounds for Maycon, while there’s also talk that Corinthians would request that the player is left at the club for the initial 12 months if any agreement is signed.

    Arsenal vs AC Milan

It’s been a good few days for Arsenal.

Last Thursday the Gunners claimed a 2-0 away with in the Europa League at AC Milan.

Arsene Wenger’s charges followed that up with a 3-0 Premier League win over Watford.

Arsenal return to action on Thursday when Milan come to London for their second leg.

With Arsenal’s EPL top four hopes looking bleak, many believe Arsenal’s best chance of being in next season’s Champions League will be if they can win this season’s UEL.
