Arsenal open negotiations with Man United target Seri

As per a report from Sky Sports this evening, Arsenal have held talks with the representatives of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri over the possibility of a summer move to the club.

Seri, an 18-time capped Ivory Coast international, was one of the standout performers in Ligue 1 last season, as Les Aiglons secured a shock place in the playoff round of the Champions League.

Controlling proceedings from the middle of midfield for the entirety of his side’s stellar campaign, the diminutive 26-year-old playmaker racked up 7 goals and 9 assists, catching the eye of some of Europe’s biggest sides in the process.

All of Barcelona, Tottenham, AS Roma and PSG were linked with summer moves for Seri, with the Blaugrana having even reached a deal with Nice, before pulling the plug on the transfer at the last minute.

Seri has since spoken out on several occasions regarding his immense disappointment at his dream move to the Camp Nou falling through in such agonizing fashion, with Barca having instead opted to bring in Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande last summer, and Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in January.

    Emirates bound?

Despite having struggled to make quite as impressive an impact this season as he did last, Seri has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United once again ahead of the opening of this summer’s transfer window.

However, a report from Get French Football News yesterday morning revealed that Arsenal actually hold a clear advantage in the race for the Nice star.

This is due to the presence of Raul Sanllehi at the Emirates, with the former Barcelona director having played a key role in the negotiations between the Blaugrana and Seri’s representatives last summer, and the parties having stayed in touch since.

And, as revealed by Sky Sports News this evening, Arsenal have already attempted to make use of their inside track towards the signature of Seri, by opening formal negotiations with the Ivorian’s agents with regards to a summer transfer.

The Gunners are said to be seriously considering an offer for Seri, who would set the North Londoners back a fee of around £40 million.
