Amazing news for Man United’s Ashley Young

    Ashley Young & England

According to the Times on Tuesday, Man United’s Ashley Young is set to be recalled to the England national team.

It’s less than 100 days until the World Cup kicks off in Russia.

England have been grouped with Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.

Gareth Southgate is gearing up for a key international break, where the national team take on Holland and Italy. The Times report:

Southgate is set to reward Ashley Young for his recent good form by calling the Manchester United full back up to the England squad on Thursday.

Southgate will challenge Young to make the left wing-back position his own when the squad meet next week for the friendlies in Amsterdam and at Wembley.

    England’s left-back problems

Once thought to be one of England’s stronger positions, left-back is becoming a headache for Southgate.

Tottenham’s Danny Rose has barely featured this season, which has dropped him down the pecking order. It’s a similar story for Young’s Man United team mate Luke Shaw.

Aaron Cresswell and Ryan Bertrand are struggling at West Ham and Southampton, while Everton’s Leighton Baines seems to be out of the picture.

ESPN FC have sat down with Young this week for a new interview.

Young gave his thoughts on his longevity at Old Trafford:

It’s just determination, working hard and keeping my feet on the ground in training and keep on proving people wrong. There has been so much speculation about me leaving, over God knows how many years, but I just have to focus on playing football and being in the team.

I’m a versatile player, can play in numerous positions and I have a good football brain, even if it is getting older. You just know where to be on the pitch, when to go forward, when to defend and that’s what I’ve done.
